On Saturday 3rd November, Film Fatale,
Ireland’s most glamorous film event, will celebrate the 1960s with a
screening of Billy Wilder’s classic comedy/drama, The Apartment. This
will be a night of cinema nostalgia and old–style Hollywood glamour that
will transport the audience back to the 1960s for a night of film,
vintage music, cocktails and dancing.
The screening of The Apartment will be followed by a 1960s Mad Men-esque party, with live performances and Film Fatale’s resident DJs, The Andrews Sisters’ Brothers, playing music from the era. The audience is invited to help set the scene by dressing up in their vintage finest, paying homage to 1960s or mirroring the stars of the film. Film Fatale will be setting the scene by creating a 1960s apartment in The Sugar Club — a perfect chill-out room where you can step away from the busy dance floor and sit back with your 1960s bespoke cocktail designed especially for the night.
Set during the same era as Mad Men, C. C. Baxter (the always hilarious Jack Lemmon) is an office clerk working in a busy Manhattan skyscraper. Finding it hard to get ahead in business, he put himself in his bosses’ favour by lending out his apartment for their extra-curricular affairs. Among these is his callous boss J.D. Sheldrake, whose wooing of Miss Kubelik (the quick-witted Shirley MacLaine), the fetching elevator operator who Baxter is pining over. Nominated for 10 Academy Awards, and winning five including Best Picture, The Apartment sparkles with charm, snappy dialogue and heartfelt humor.
Sit back in the sumptuous Sugar Club, have the Film Fatale usherettes serve you popcorn while watching one of the greatest comedies unfold. Then dance the night away to the sounds of the sixties.
