Film Fatale celebrates Marilyn Monroe

This August marks 50 years since the passing of one Hollywood’s most iconic stars, Marilyn Monroe. To celebrate the silver screen’s most famous platinum blonde, Film Fatale, Ireland’s most glamourous film event, will screen Marilyn in her most sizzling role — as Sugar Kane in Some Like it Hot. This will be a night of cinema nostalgia and old–style Hollywood glamour that will transport the audience back to 1950s Hollywood for an evening of film, vintage music, cocktails and dancing.

Opening the festivities, chanteuse Derby Browne will reprise her role from 2010s National Concert Hall show 'Let's Make Love' for a Marilyn-inspired tribute. The show will include songs from Some Like it Hot, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, There's No Business Like Show Business and Let's Make Love, alongside Marilyn’s famous rendition of ‘Happy Birthday Mr President’.

The screening of Billy Wilder’s hilarious comedy will be followed by a 1950s party mirroring Hollywood’s greatest decade with Film Fatale’s resident DJs, The Andrews Sisters’ Brothers, playing hits from the era. The audience is invited to help set the scene by dressing up in their vintage finest, paying homage to the 1950s or dressing like Marilyn and her co-stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon.

One of Hollywood's most treasured classics and the American Film Institute's number one in its list of America's 100 Funniest Movies, ‘Some Like It Hot’ stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon as Chicago musicians who accidentally witness a gangland shooting and quickly board a southbound train to Florida, disguised as Josephine and Daphne. The two then become the newest and homeliest members of an all-girl jazz band, which includes a never-better Marilyn Monroe. While Curtis falls for Monroe and creates another alias to woo her, Lemmon gets stuck fending off the affections of millionaire Osgood Fielding III. Marilyn Monroe’s charm, perfectly matched by the pairing of Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon’s comic duo, makes ‘Some Like It Hot’ Billy Wilder’s most sizzling comedy.

Sit back, enjoy a classic signature cocktail designed especially for the night, as the Film Fatale usherettes serve you popcorn while watching Billy Wilders most side-splitting comedy. Then dance the night away to ‘ I want to be loved by you’.
